I can't say enough good things about this place. This was the first stop on my way to the Indiana Brewers Festival in Indianapolis. It was a little tricky to find but that could have been due to my lack of familiarity with the area. The bar tender was a little ditzy but she was very pleasant. The food was good too. On tap were: golden blond, blueberry ale, li'l warrior pale, hefe, oatmeal brown, back stout, marzen, and kolsch.
Li'l Warrior Pale: 4.4 abv; 60 IBU. This had a luscious clean hoppy flavor--not cloying. It is really bitter but a nice summer drink.
Oatmeal Brown: 5.2 abv; 40 IBU. Has a thick creamy head with a truly unique flavor. It almost turns sweet, but doesn't and finishes dry. You'll have to try it for what I've written to make sense.
Black Rye Stout: 5.8 abv; 33 IBU. This was "motor oil" black. No head, chocolaty nose, and a malty bitter flavor. Probably one of the best stouts I've even had. I had to go out to my car to get my phone and ran into the brewer. I told him how much I enjoyed this stout. After I got back to my seat, he brought me a sample of a stout that is about to be tapped: he made it with Reeces Peatnut Butter Cups. Now, I don't like peanut butter so I was a bit hesitant to try it--but it was delicous! It had a very chocolaty/malty flavor, but finished dry and nutty like a nice nut brown. I wouldn't have expected it to be that dry given the sugar in the peanut butter cups. If you live in the area or are passing though, give them a call and see if this has been tapped. It was really delicous.
The stout and the IPA were some of the best I had in all my travels.

I was happy with the two hoppy beers that I tried, I believe the IPA and the Pale. I tried the Hefe and was overpowered by the amount of yeast used in this one. I prefer a hint of the Banana Clove where this one had a overpowering taste of bananas and clove. Food was good, staff was great and I really liked the building, next time I'm going to have to sit out on the patio it looked real nice.

Most recent stop allowed me to try 5 beers, most new to me. Blueberry Ale was intense blueberry--over the top, almost "fake" tasting. Kellerbier nice, toasty malt is a good description, clean. Oompa Loompa a very good chocolate stout, smooth. Hazelnut chocolate stout very nice with a great balance, my favorite this stop. Monkey Paw a brown ale had a slight sweetness and a slight roastiness--good beer.

Matt brews exceptional beers. This establishment has been medaled many times at various National and International Beer Festivals, just check them out when you are there. All beers are great, and I prefer Belgians and malty beers and they never dissapoint here. Food is also very good, from standard pub fare to more extensive items. One thing I hate about brewpups is they tend to have exotic menus, which is fine at times. However, when I want a NY strip, why does it have to have gorgonzola cheese, and 10 spices, herbs, wines, etc. that I have never heard of? Have one of those on the menu but give me my basic as well. RRBC does just this and does each very well. The girls who work here are hot, not sure if this is required but it doesn't hurt. Minis they wear are prime also not sure what the reviewer Amy was complaining about but then again she is a female. Note to Amy - men love MINIS!!!! There are also a fair number of young guys working here so something for everyone honey. If you don't like the fact guys are staring at the girls in minis, then put one on yourself and see what happens.

I must agree with several earlier posts with regards to the (often times) lack of a wide selection at RR. Only five on tap this stop, with only one option for those looking for a "bigger" beer. Lucifer's Lunacy, a Belgian Tripple IPA was the only option in that category. It was very hoppy with a slight Belgian finish--not bad. The other four styles left me cold. Packed bar on Black Friday; good business was no doubt the reason selection was kicked.

Girlfriend took me to Cleveland over the summer. Went out to Rocky River towards the end of the trip and really enjoyed it. I love the set up, was in there during the afternoon so I was the only person at the bar. The beer selection was great, every beer was great but nothing really spectecular. But I enjoyed the place more then Great Lakes.

Stopped in here on 7/25 while in Cleveland for an Indians game. Had more trouble finding a parking space than I did finding a seat at the bar. They listed eight beers on tap to go along with a full bar but only had seven beers available. Started off with the Coopers Gold Kolsch which was okay. Switched to the Rockcliff ALT which was a bit more to my liking. The food menu is fairly standard pub faire so I went out on a limb and ordered the Enchiritos. The meal was filling but nothing special. The staff seemed more interested in figuring who could cover eachs shift and less focused on tending to the customers (unless you were a regular). I think I got put off a bit because some lady about ten stools down from me was talking to her friend right next to her and I'm pretty sure the people in Akron could hear her. Just bad timing on my part. I was lucky enough to get a pint of the Ooompa Loompa, their chocolate stout. Liquid dessert. That made my visit a lot sweeter.

Having been to this place several times a year, I will have to say that I have never once been let down by the quality of thier beer! They have always put out a top notch product. However, They seem to have a very hard time keeping the more adventerous beers on tap. Many times have I made the trip with Zeuse juice or oompa on my mind only to be told "sorry we ran out last night". The food is hit or miss. They have deffinately let the quality slide over the years. The bar itself is very comfortable and inviting. The staff, however plentiful, are unfriendly and unattentive unless you are a local. A little work on stock and educating the staff, this would be one of the best in the area.

The Blueberry Ale is fantastic. The beer selection is not that great and they are always oput of almost all the microbreews. I'd prefer to go to Edison's Pub in Tremont and choose from one of their bazillion beers.
The food sucks, is usually cold and is nothing more than your average TGIFriday's fare, otherwise, eh, a notch or so above fast food.
The mashed potatoes used to be fabulous but now they are pasty and have spinach in them, which totally does not work. The mac and cheese is bland and lacks creaminess, which personally is what I look for in my mac and cheese (flavor and a creamy texture.
And don't even get me started on the service. Most of the barmaids suck and are self absorbed. And no offense, but some of them should not be wearing mini-skirts, which appears to be a pre-requisite as far as RRBC bar maid uniforms go. But I can get past all of that if they could just tell me about the beer when I ask about it. But you usually get a vapid, "Duhr...um, it's flavorful!" Thanks, Brighty McSherlock.
I'd pass ths place unless you were desperate and wanted to hang withthe lamest crowd in town and eat subpar food and hope to hell this "brewing company" actually has something on tap.

Short and sweet. I have been here several times over the years, and things don't seem to change much. It is almost always crowded (you have to sit at the bar unless you are eating before 10 PM) and full of smoke. I had hoped to get an Oompa Loompa, but as in past years they were out, so I settled for the dunkel weizen. It was ok, no Oompa Loompa that's for sure. Fearing that I would soon require supplemental oxygen to survive we called it a night after a couple of pints. Not your best option in the Cleveland area, but worth a stop if you don't mind the smoke.

I visited this brewpub on 10/12/05 and had the following brews; RR Pirate Light, St Festivus Marzen, Kohlminator Bock, Oompa Loompa, Blitzkrieg Alt - Fest. Their two newest GABF medals were proudly on display for the Specialty and Experimental catagories, neither of which were available for my sampling. The Oompa Loompa was the most choclately brew I have ever tasted. The brewer may do well with experimental brews, but I think he needs to work a little harder on the basics. The Oompa Loompa was worth the trip here.

Had the opportunity to try three beers new to me on my most recent visit. Summer Bier was light, but still flavorful and refreshing. Hazelnut Porter was the one I thought would be my favorite--it wasn't. The hops and the hazelnut were unbalanced; the flavors clashed to the point of distraction. Smokestack Porter was the pick this time; just a nice, well-rounded example of what a porter can (and should) be.

Very disappointed in Rocky River Brewery. The beers were ok, I had the saison ( Ok ) and the bock ( pretty good ).
The food was sub-par, my wife had the salmon burger which was dry and tasteless, and the calamari appetizer at $11.95 was pathetic.I had a fried cuban sandwich which was decent.
The real downfall however was the service. After a decent time in the bar eating, we went to the outside bar area for a couple of more beers. The area was almost empty, so we picked a table in the corner. Soon a snotty little waitress appeared and told us all the tables were reserved only for those ordering food. Imagine that, a supposed brewpub where you cant sit and just have a couple of beers. And the place wasnt crowded at all. In all my beer traveling, I dont recall ever being treated so rudely.
In summary, I would avoid this place. the beers are really nothing special, the food not very good, and the service stinks.
